Christy Smith has dedicated her career to education, serving as an Analyst for the Department of Education and founding the Valencia Valley Technological Education Foundation before becoming the first Democrat to represent the 38th CA Assembly District in over four decades. In the Assembly, she has championed expanding access to quality, affordable health care, lowering prescription drug costs, and expanding opportunities for working families. Christy is running for Congress to deliver educational, social, economic, and environmental equity and to fight for a better future for all Californians.
GOP incumbent Rep. Mike Garcia beat Christy by just 333 votes in 2020. And redistricting moved this seat from Biden +10 to Biden +12, with an overall PVI of D+4, making it one of Democrats’ best pick-up opportunities of the cycle. It’s currently rated as a Toss-Up. Christy is also a past Bend the Arc PAC endorsee, and we’re proud to back her again in 2022 to flip this seat from Red to Blue.
