Jamie McLeod-Skinner launched a progressive grassroots campaign to defeat 7-term Democratic incumbent Kurt Schrader—which she did, by 14 points in Oregon’s May primary— and is now running to keep this purple district blue in November. Jamie is an emergency response coordinator, small business owner, engineer, and attorney, who began her career repairing schools and hospitals in Bosnia and Kosovo before returning to the U.S. to manage refugee resettlement programs. Jamie understands the challenges Oregon families are facing and is running to be a fierce advocate for Oregon workers, families, and the environment in Congress. She knows that building and maintaining our democratic system will require expanding voting rights, campaign finance reform, and the end of partisan gerrymandering to ensure all voters are heard and can easily participate in our democratic process.

Democrats have held OR-05 for 25 years and Biden won this district in 2020. But due to redistricting, it is now one of the most competitive races in the country, having recently moved from “Lean Democratic” to “Toss-up.” Holding this district is imperative in order for Democrats to maintain control of the House. If Jamie wins, she will be the first openly LGBTQ person to be elected to Congress from Oregon.
